how to apply

Students who meet the admission requirements as mentioned by the Graduate School of Economics and Social Sciences (ESBE) must:

1 Fill in the application form (pdf).

2. Submit their CVs and transcripts attached to the application form.

3. Proceed with the online application process to submit all the required documents: https://stars.bilkent.edu.tr/gradapp/

To be admitted to the program, candidates are expected to pass the 3-stage entrance exam: language proficiency exams (or provide a certificate equivalent), translation exam and the interview successfully.

entrance exam

Students who meet the admission requirements are invited to sit an entrance exam.

To be admitted to the program, candidates must successfully pass the three-stage entrance exam: a language proficiency exam (or provide an equivalent certificate), a translation exam, and an interview. Below are further details regarding the exam procedure.

1. language profıcıency 

Candidates are required to submit the necessary proficiency requirements to proceed with the second phase.

French Proficiency: DALF or French Proficiency Examination of the School of Applied Languages (85/100)

English Proficiency: TOEFL IBT (at least 87), IELTS (at least 6.5 average and 5.5 from each section).

Validity period for all exams: 2 years

Bilkent University graduates, who obtained their undergraduate degrees within the last 2 years before the application deadline, are exempt from the above mentioned English proficiency tests.

Applicants must have Turkish as their mother tongue to be eligible to apply for this program.

2. translatıon exam

Candidates are asked to translate a short text from their passive languages (B and C languages) to their native language (A language) and another text from their A language into their B language.

The texts are not technical and do not require knowledge of the field or terminology, so no dictionaries are allowed.

Candidates will be assessed based on comprehension of the source text and the ability to reproduce clearly and accurately in the target language.

Candidates must pass this exam to be invited to the interview.

3. ıntervıew

The interview will include reproducing 3-4-minute long speeches consecutively, with or without taking notes in the declared language combination of the candidate.

This means interpreting speeches from B and C languages into A language and speeches from A language into the B language of the candidate.

There will also be a short interview with the candidate.

This stage intends to evaluate’ comprehension, reproduction and overall communication skills of the candidate along with general knowledge.

Candidates must pass the interview to be admitted to the program.
