Asst. Prof. Duygu Duman, Acting Chair

Duygu Çurum Duman received her PhD from Yıldız Technical University in 2018. Her research interests include community interpreting, health interpreting, interpreting education, hermeneutic approach to translation, qualitative research approaches, terminology and specialised field communication. Having worked at Hacettepe, Yıldız Technical and Haliç Universities, Dr Duman has also been involved in various EU projects.

Alican Demir completed his master’s degree at Stendhal-Grenoble 3 University in 2003. Demir teaches Basic French at the French Preparatory Unit.

Asena Kaya Karaca completed her PhD at Yıldız Technical University in 2021. Her research focuses on art translation in the context of interdisciplinarity, visibility of the artist as a translator, translation of cultures within the framework of anthropology and archaeology, phenomenology in translation, sociology of translation and translation criticism.

Cahide Ekiz received her MA from the University of Surrey. Her expertise is economics, trade, politics, law, the European Union, international organisations, social sciences and popular science within the framework of specialised translation. She worked at Atılım and Hacettepe Universities, TÖMER and Turkish Standards Institute.

Güçlü Özkök completed his master’s degree at Hacettepe University in 1995 and specialised in grammar in French foreign language teaching. He has been involved in establishing a video conferencing system for simultaneous translation courses supported by the European Parliament and in managing the courses. He has also contributed to the dissemination of the Melissi classroom translation software. Özkök translates stories, narratives and reading books from French into Turkish for preschool and primary school children.

Neda Siami completed her PhD at Hacettepe University in 2016 and works in the fields of French literature and theatre. Before joining Bilkent University, Dr. Siami worked at TOBB ETU, Ankara French Cultural Centre, University of Tabriz, University of Urumia and Kish University.

Zeynep Şengel is working on interpreting, conference interpreting, interpreting training, accessibility, migration and translation, and plain language use. She received her MA in Conference Interpreting from Bilkent University in 2008. She has been working as a freelance conference interpreter for 15 years, providing interpreting services in high-level bilateral and technical meetings, various conferences and congresses. Currently a PhD candidate, Şengel is the vice-president of the Turkish Conference Interpreters Association.

Büşra Kurt Uçar has been working as a freelance translator for 12 years, providing translation, proofreading, localisation and transcreation services for various international companies. Her translation-related areas of specialisation include pharmaceuticals, pharmacovigilance, clinical trials, medical devices, technical equipment, law, IT and video games. She received her MA from Hacettepe University in 2019 and is currently a PhD candidate. Her research interests focus on digitalisation, sociology of translation, and translator status.

Bahtınur Gündoğdu is currently a PhD student at Hacettepe University with a specialization in French Language Literature. She is experienced and authorized in administrating and evaluating assessments in preparation for DELF exams. She has vast experience in teaching French as a foreign language to students of different ages and backgrounds. Her master’s thesis focused on demonstrating “The effect of literary texts on the development of writing skills in French as a foreign language.”
